Community Rules

  • Role of this site

    • Internet Garage Sale is a matchmaking service for people who are selling things and people interested in buying them.
    • We deliberately keep a very small membership pool, admitting only invited people who have paid to take part. Quality over quantity is our goal.
    • This site does not handle payments of any kind, escrow, shipping, or any other logistics of your sale. We put a seller in contact with the highest bidder -- the rest of the transaction is entirely the responsibility of those two parties.
    • We do not accept any liability should your sale result in lost money, goods, or other harm.
    • We do not arbitrate or mediate disputes in any way.
    • However, you may file a complaint against a user, which will lower their karma rating. A user who has earned a sufficiently low karma rating will be permanently banned from the site.
    • There is no fee to use Internet Garage Sale for either buying or selling other than a one-time activation fee when your account is first created.

  • Buying

    • If you win an auction, you must follow through and pay for it. Do not bid unless you are absolutely serious about paying the amount you bid.
    • You must pay for your won auction in a timely manner. Within 24 hours of auction close, unless you've made other arrangements with the seller.

  • Selling

    • If you've sold an item, you must follow through and ship it to the highest bidder. Do not list an item unless you are committed to getting rid of it.
    • You must ship sold items in a timely manner. Within 48 hours of receiving payment, unless you've made other arrangements with the buyer.

  • General

    • Internet Garage Sale is for use by persons 18 years of age and older only.
    • Account activation fees are not refundable for any reason.
    • Only tangible, physical items may be sold, not services, etc.
    • Items which are generally considered illegal for sale are prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, drugs, hazardous materials, obscene items, animals, and stolen goods of any kind.
    • Do not be a jerk to the other users.
    • Your registered email address will be made available to other registered users of this site to facilitate the selling process.
    • Bidding is not incremental like eBay -- if you bid $100 on an item, you are on the hook for $100.
    • You must use your full, real name when registering for this site. No handles or nicknames are allowed.

  • Penalties

    • Violation of any of these rules is grounds for being permanently banned from the site, even on first offense.
    • Additionally, the person who invited you to the site may receive negative karma (up to and including a ban) as well.
